Miami Heat teammates LeBron James and Chris Bosh donned their golf duds for a good cause as they teed it up at the recent Ray Allen Golf Classic in Miami Beach. As Surya Fernandez of hothothoops.com reports, proceeds from the charity tournament went toward the fight against Type 1 Diabetes, which Allen’s 6-year-old son manages through daily insulin injections.

Allen’s goal is to eliminate those shots by supporting cure-focused diabetes research.

“My family and I are excited to be co-chairing this special event with the Holtz family to support the important work of JDRF and DRIF,” said Allen. “People with type 1 diabetes, including my son, must carefully manage their blood-glucose levels throughout each and every day, balancing insulin doses with daily activities. Managing this disease is a full-time role that affects the entire family. By supporting critical research, our goal is for all people to know a world without type 1 diabetes.”

Like Charles Barkley, James is not much of a golfer, but good for him and his teammates for lending their celebrity to fundraisers like this, anyway.
