She Gets By With a Little Help from Her Friend: ‘We’re Good for Each Other,’ Vonn Says of Woods

Quick! Leash the dogs and warn the children: it’s the latest update on Tiger Woods and Lindsay Vonn.

In the February issue of SELF Magazine, the accomplished skier (Vonn, not Woods), described the ups and downs of her personal and professional life, which have been marked by battles with injuries and depression.

Among the biggest ups? Her relationship with Woods.

“We’re good for each other,” said Vonn, who is sitting out the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia as she rehabs from a knee injury.

Since they started dating last year, Woods, Vonn said, has been her rock.

“He’s helped me stay patient through rehab,” she said. “Golf is all about patience — one tournament is four days long, 18 holes a day. He helped me take it one day at a time. I’d say, ‘Why can’t I do this? I want to!’ And he’d say, ‘You’ll get your chance. It will come. … I don’t know what he’s learned from me, to be honest. But we push each other and help each other when we’re down.”

Just two months ago, the star athlete in decline (Woods, not Vonn) struck a similar tone in discussing Vonn’s rehab with ESPN.

“I think that’s just day to day,” he said. “We just don’t know how her leg is going to be. We’ll just take it day to day, race to race.”

In her SELF interview, Vonn offers other details on why the two make a good match.

“We’re pretty competitive in everything we do: tennis, Ping-Pong, who wakes up earlier. I lose more than I win, but I try! He always beats me walking to the car.”

Move on people, what happened in the past will not happen in the future. The Tiger of old will not be the Tiger of new. Not in his golf game not in his personal life... He may or may not win another major. He may or may not marry again.  But one thing is certain, he will not make the same mistake twice if he ever marries again.

"He's good for me." Me too Lindsay. If it wasn't for Tiger I wouldn't be thinking about golf. Tiger is golf.

Editor, golf.com,

When you publish rubbish, many "rubbish" comments are authored.  Let's see, is there a next logical relationship with the term rubbish...........

"He always beats me walking to the car.”

Funny.  Didn't Elin beat him as he walked to the car?

But she is intelligent enough to know she has to stay with him every night of every weekend.  Eventually that might get difficult with her skiing career.

@Meg888 and youre still humping mine. But can you wipe off the wet spot when you finish? It doesn't smell so fresh, if you know what I mean. Ruff ruff.

@The Computer Store Owner @Stephen35@emncaity@Teedoff Sounds like your key mistake is considering any athlete a "hero". Golfers are entertainers. They hit balls into hole. Nothing heroic about that regardless of whether the golfer is a serial cheater or the most devoted spouse in history. But knock yourself out there Don Quixote.

@Stephen35 get your mace ready because the attack dog is on the loose.

@Stephen35 @emncaity @Teedoff @The Computer Store Owner  There are two different trains of thought, Stephen35.  The first is that serial infidelity (to the tune of over 100 mistresses who had no idea that there were other mistresses) is irrelevant to a golfing hero.  And there is the train of thought that it is.  One group cannot understand the other group.  I'm certainly guilty of that--and so are you.

Sophomoric?  Perhaps.  But no more sophomoric than Tiger making his devoutly religious roommate in the Ryder Cup put up with XXX porn movies in their room for hours on end.

No one knows what Tiger was like as a partner?  Wrong.  Millions of people know him to be a very unfaithful partner.  And they also know that lifestyle was not mutually agreed upon with Elin.  Most people in the second train of thought believe that serial cheating is a bad thing--just as bad or worse as cheating on your opponents in golf.

@emncaity @Teedoff@The Computer Store Owner If there was substance to the comment, then there could be substance to the replies. Tru or False to what? A sophomoric crack about his infidelity? CSO has coherent thoughts on many subjects, but on Tiger it is just a tired regurgitation of the same moronic dribble. No one knows him personally or what he is like as a partner and father now. And it's too bad we live in the tabloid world because it shouldn't matter to anyone other than his ex-wife, current significant other, and his kids.
