After Bay Hill Break Down, an Augusta Tune Up for Adam Scott

For Adam Scott, better memories lie down Magnolia Lane.

Fresh off his lost weekend at Bay Hill, where he squandered a seven-shot lead, it’s off to Augusta for the defending Masters’ champ, who says he’ll spend the next two days tuning up his game in preparation for the year’s first major.

“If nothing else, it’s a good reminder of how much putting practice I need to do for going to the Masters and just how important it is,” Scott told Golf Channel.

He was referring to his struggles down the stretch at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he closed with a 76 and finished in third place. Bedeviled by a balky broomstick, Scott racked up 63 putts over the weekend at Arnie’s event — this after shooting a 62 in his opening round. His disappointing showing was low-lighted by a three-putt on the par-five 16th hole Sunday, where he narrowly missed an eagle then blew the short come-backer.

Last year at Augusta, Scott wasn’t the best putter in the field either (he was 39th in putting for the event) but he made the ones that really mattered, including a clinching birdie on the second playoff hole.

“If I think back to last year, I made every putt that you expect to in that last round and ultimately that’s maybe what gave me the chance to win,” he said.

There's only been a few players who have repeat.  I don't think Scott is in the same category as those players.  Hard to even say who is the hottest player at this moment going in.

Scott needs to work on his chipping...he used texas wedge almost exclusively. Priceless to see Scott meekly ask Williams about club selection and be told to hit the one Stevie gave him.

Yes, Scott putted poorly on Sunday under pressure, but for the week he was +3.56 strokes gained putting, ranking 14th in the field.  He had two great putting days (Thursday, Friday), one average putting day (Saturday) and one poor putting day ... combined he was well above average.

His bigger problem was his swing broke down on Sunday, creating too much pressure on him.  He hit 34 fairways the rest of the week (10, 12, 12) and only 8 on Sunday.  He hit 13 greens in regulation each of the first three days, and only 9 on Sunday.  7-foot putts for birdie are less pressure than a 7-foot putt to save par when your lead is dwindling.

It isn't what Scott has IN his bag that's the problem........it's the scumwad he has ON his bag.  Time to turn that big mouthed piece of garbage loose..........

if Scott putts at Augusta the way he finished at Bay Hill, he will not even make the cut.

Needs to start using regulation sized putter now or it is only going to get worse with long putters being outlawed in the near future.

He finished third...Not too shabby!  Clean up the putting.  You don't fix your putting at Augusta.  If you come playing bad or putting bad you will not make the weekend there.

@BubbaJoBubba1 are you serious?  Without Steve Williams, Adam Scott has no green jacket.  Sounds like you're either a sour Tiger fan wishing he was still looping for the big cat, or a still sour Tiger hater still begrudged because of the night of the hydrant.  No way you just hate stevie because he's stevie
