Greg Norman and Joe Buck will be Fox Sports’ lead broadcast team at the 2015 U.S. Open, according to Sports Business Journal.

Joe Buck and Greg Norman will be Fox Sports’ top on-air voices when the network debuts its golf coverage next year, according to several sources. The two will be set up in the 18th green tower at the ’15 U.S. Open, when the event will be held at Chambers Bay outside Seattle. The decision to tap Buck and Norman comes as somewhat of a surprise, as neither has announced golf on television before. Norman, a two-time British Open winner, is a member of the Golf HOF. Buck is said to be a scratch golfer who is knowledgeable about the sport.

The USGA announced in August that Fox Sports would take over the U.S. Open from longtime broadcast partner NBC Sports starting in 2015 in a 12-year deal worth a reported $1.2 billon. At the time, NBC’s lead golf analyst Johnny Miller said that he would not be moving to Fox Sports.

Shortly after the U.S. Open deal was announced, Norman said that Fox offered him the lead analyst job. While Norman has never announced golf on television, he is well-known to golf fans for his two major wins as well as his heartbreaking losses at the 1996 and 1987 Masters. In his prime, he was the No. 1-ranked player in the world for 331 weeks, a record surpassed only by Tiger Woods.

Norman is also known for being outspoken about the game, and especially about Woods. Norman called for Woods to withdraw from the 2013 Masters after taking an illegal drop. He’s also locked horns with PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem.

Buck is new to golf announcing as well, but he’s a veteran Fox Sports play-by-play guy, and part of the network’s so-called “A” team for football and baseball broadcasts. Buck is also a member of Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, home club of new USGA president Tom O’Toole.

Joe Buck is "A scratch golfer who is knowledgeable about golf".  Well I feel so much better now...NOT.  Greg Norman, who believes he is the best, at everything, scares me.  His only analysis is controversial so it makes the news and media sites.  It's just a one week gig for these guys.  So buck will have to learn the bio's of the players, no problem I believe.  But Norman?  No experience as an analyst?  How is that going to be good?

I believe Norman's main problem with Tiger is that he is a way better golfer and moves the needle way more than Norman ever did.  Norman was a choker!  BUT, let's give him a chance.  You would think on FOX, where anyhing goes whether it's right or not, would free him up to say what he really means.  Let's give them a chance.  Maybe their new technology, that they will surely bring, will offset the 18th tower.  I guess I want to know who the supporting cast will be.  I bet a bunch of newbies.

Personally I think the camera work more important than the commentators.  Give it a chance and then make up your mind.  One of the problems these days is everyone makes up their mind before either looking or listening  to the other guy.  Is anyone out there that does golf so well that there is no room for improvement?  I don't believe the negativity.

Helps Norman that he & Murdoch are equally powerful Aussies that mix well. The Buck critics will probably be out in full force, even if Norman becomes the Aikman of FOX Golf.

Oh, lordie! Why in the deep bunker did the USGA sign up with FOX. whose sports events are noted for their rough, detailed edges in HD away from the norm held by the other networks? I don't see the point of the organization's rippng tradition unfairly from NBC, which would be without showing a major for the first time (the same way the Peacock Network lost Wimbeldon to ABC/ESPN understandably due to its terribly delayed coverage). CBS still keeps the Masters & the PGA Championship, the first 2 rounds of the first major being presented on ESPN, which runs the British Open, whose last 2 rounds end on ABC. The Buck-Norman commentating combo seemed maleficent to my taste & standards.

Norman is well versed in US Open play, not sure Buck brings anything to the table. Isn't there a Chicago Cubs - Arizona Diamondbacks game that won't exceed Buck's commentary skills? Norman needs a good parrying partner Bill Murray, that would be fun to watch.

Please tell me this is a late April fools joke. Buck is the worst announcer ever.

I'm a Joe Buck fan... football. Golf? We'll see. Nance does both well.

Were Mike Tyson and Dolph Lundgren unavailable that week? Personally I think Buck and Normans a bad move. Could be worse though I guess.

Totally the wrong move in my eyes. I don't know what the right move is. But it's not this.

Anytime Joe Buck is calling something it's good. But hearing him call golf may be a stretch.

The big question: Will Joe Buck stare longingly at Greg Norman like he does at Troy Aikman during broadcasts?

You're kidding right? Both of these guys are a couple of tools...! We can't do better?

Joe Buck is completely irritating. He isn't even genuinely smarmy. He has to fake that too.

I don't care who talks as long as they don't keep playing that mausoleum music during the broadcast like CBS does.

Great now we can have two on air at the same time telling us how great Greg Norman is

The comments on this board are probably indicative of the sentiment of golf fans overall. This is a terrible decision by Fox. Initially, I was excited to hear Fox won the USGA package from NBC, because I thought they would bring a different way of broadcasting golf. Now that I hear Buck & Norman will have the call, I am overwhelmingly disappointed. I can probably tolerate Norman, but Joe Buck really is a total disaster. How did Fox take this exciting, blank canvas and totally ruin it with Joe Buck?? Here is hoping that Fox and the USGA get together and nix this broadcast team before this train wreck gets too far down the rails....what a terrible, awful decision. Just what the golf world needs...more reasons to dislike the USGA!

What does Joe Buck know about golf? He is too mouthy with football! He will never shutup!!

Gabe Garcia

Great golf announcing is about timing, subtly, and sometimes silence. You now have one guy who never shuts up and another overly opinionated hypocrite with a history of short comings both on and off the course

Better to have a golf person than Buck...just a talking head

So let's round this dynamic duo out with Chris Berman and Pam Ward as on course commentators

Here's an idea for some radio show.  Hire Johnny Miller to do a radio broadcast that is sync-ed with the Fox TV coverage.  Then all fans have to do is turn off the TV sound and turn on the radio.

@tommyrogo Personally, I am looking forward to hearing the whining bich Norman explain how he choked so many times on this side of the pond. Alos, the added benefit of being able to look at Buck's forehead for three hours makes it that much better.....
