Video: Pablo Larrazabal Plunges into Lake to Escape Hornets in Malaysia

News

Over the years, Golf.com has produced hundreds, if not thousands, of instructional videos to help you become a better player. But here’s one tip we’ve failed to offer: how to escape a swarm of hornets.

Pablo Larrazabal, unfortunately, has now provided the footage.

The 30-year-old European Tour pro was playing the fifth hole in his second round at the Malaysian Open when he suddenly walked into a cloud of angry hornets (TV announcers said he did not disturb a nest). The Spaniard was stung numerous times before finally heeding the advice of his playing partners and leaping into a lake just off the fairway. Here’s the video:

Perhaps the most amazing thing about this isn’t the throng of ill-tempered insects, but the fact that Larrazabal went on to birdie that fifth hole and shoot a four-under 68. He said via twitter that he expects to recover quickly and return to the course Saturday for his third round.

This is one guy I would've believed if he said he WD because of allergies.

Finally, a reason for golfers not to hate water hazards.

Flapping that towel around probably didn't do much to calm them down.   He should've headed straight for the water instead of hanging around and pis****  them off.

I'm surprised they didn't give him at least a two stroke penalty.

I'm surprized he put on a bright orange shirt after he was stung because bees get irritated by loud noises and bright colors.

Got too close to a hornets nest (it was in the ground. Who'd know?) a few years ago and got stung once on each arm. Hurt for at least a week. If you see 'em run.

use wd40 for instant relief it takes the stings away in 20 seconds instead of hours

How ironic, when I play golf that's usually where my clubs end up !

I dated a fat girl once.  She jumped in a lake, and left a ring.  Later, after she dried off, we made love, I got on top, and my ears popped.  The next day for her birthday, I bought her two wrist watches, one for each wrist, she covers two time zones.

I sometimes jump in a lake to escape everything in life....ZZzzsst! One of these days I may just do the world a favor and not come back up. lol

Hornets, unlike honey bees, really do have a bad disposition.  Just walk near their nest (a hole in the ground) and they get swarmingly mad.  I hate 'em.  If I ever find a hornets nest in my yard, I wait until after dark so they have all gathered into their nest, then I spray a bunch of hornet killer into the hole and immediately stomp the hole shut if the ground is wet--or put a brick over the hole if it is dry.  Next day...no more live hornets--at least in that nest..
